Central Texas Youth Eligible for Free, Nutritious Meals Through Summer Program
AUSTIN, Texas — We always hear doctors talking about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet, but as costs in Central Texas continue to rise, families are forced to make sacrifices.
According to the Central Texas Food Bank, two thirds of its population says it's had to choose between paying for food and housing; 80 percent says between food and medicine.
The Central Texas Food Bank says that 34 percent of its clients are children and teens.
This summer, IDEA Public Schools, the Texas Department of Agriculture and Central Texas Food Bank are offering free and nutritious lunches for all kids 18 and younger at certain locations, part of the Seamless Summer Option.
Breakfast will be offered from 7 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
