Bell County Interstate 35 is still closed in both directions in Salado after an 18-wheeler hit a bridge under construction late Thursday morning. A more than nine-hour committee hearing on school voucher bills set up what's likely to be a long road ahead for the legislation. The Senate Education Committee heard testimony Thursday over a plan that would let families get state funding to remove children from struggling schools and send them to private alternatives. The downtown Austin Salvation Army is getting a massive facelift. Thursday, employees and the CEO from the Austin-based financial services company EZCORP came together to volunteer at the nonprofit. The company donated materials and manpower for the Salvation Army’s Downtown Shelter and Social Services Center.
