Westhill Cruises Past Canton for Class B Boys Basketball Title

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Westhill stormed out of the gate in Binghamton and never looked back as they won the Class B boys basketball state championship Saturday in Binghamton over Canton 80-62.

The Warriors pushed their halftime lead to 21 on 56 percent shooting.

Canton outscored Westhill 20-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 12 to end the quarter, and scored the first basket of the fourth. The Golden Bears even cut to 10 twice in fourth quarter, none of that was enough. Westhill always had an answer.

Westhill, the Section III champion, was led by tournament MVP Kameren Jackson, who scored 22 points, as well as Owen Matukas and Sean Dadey, who each scored 15 apiece.

Canton's Declan Porter, just a sophomore, was deadly from long range (4-for-9) and finished with a game-high 26 points for the Golden Bears, out of Section X.
