14-year-old girl hit by vehicle while running cross-country
GENESEO, N.Y. -- The 14-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle in Geneseo and died was running for cross-country practice and trying to cross the road to return to school when she was struck, according to the Livingston County Sheriff.
The Geneseo Central School District identified the girl as Claire Allen, a 9th grader at Geneseo High School.
The deadly crash happened on Route 39 near Nations Road, where Allen was running near the road with a friend. The sheriff says Allen was running northbound against traffic on the west side shoulder.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 51-year-old Geneseo woman, who the sheriff said is currently not facing any charges. While she is still under investigation, the sheriff says cell phone use and driver impairment are ruled out as any potential factor.
