No Long Walks on the Beach: Durand Eastman Waterfront Eroding
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Durand Eastman Beach has seen significant erosion from the rising Lake Ontario levels.
Several stretches of formerly wide, sandy beach are now so narrow that visitors can't walk them.
Beachgoers say they're making the best of it, but are surprised to see so much water.
"It was way higher than usual," said Taylor Sayers of Churchville. "It's like all the way up, past what it usually it is. You can't even walk down where you usually are, because once you go down there you have to walk up on the sidewalk. It's just too high."
"Really eroded down here, and it's in bad shape," said Adam Fraser of Greece. "I don't know who you would get a hold of to take care of that, or help the situation, but yeah, it's bad down here."
Durand Eastman Beach officially opens for the season June 18th.
