Walmart Foundation Donates $250,000 to Fight Poverty in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The fight against poverty in Rochester received a sizable gift.
The Walmart Foundation awarded the United Way of Rochester a $250,000 grant to help deal with poverty in the city.
The money will be used to create a mentoring program that’ll help 300 people get jobs.
One of the first mentors of the program, Marcus Bliss, says it’s all about getting people on their feet.
“We’re working to get together and start this adult mentoring process early 2017,” Bliss said. “Getting people on the road to self-sufficiency and I’m sure that Walmart will be a great help in getting people placed in jobs that will get them started in the right direction.”
The goal of the program is to cut the city’s poverty rate in half over the next 15 years.
