Irondequoit's Sizer Leads Eagles to First State Title
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A quick 9-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter for the Irondequoit Eagles set them up to win the Class A boys basketball state championship over Our Lady of Lourdes Sunday afternoon in Binghamton 54-43.
The Eagles were led by senior guard Ty'Sean Sizer with 21 points for the program's first state title. Sizer went 7-for-13 from 3-point land and shot 54 percent for the game.
Tighter second-half defense paced the Eagles, and while they weren't able to stop Lourdes' biggest threat, they did contain James Anozie in the first half and fourth quarter.
Anozie saw at least two defenders around him anytime he had the ball in the paint, but the senior still managed to score 18 points. Anozie was also a force on the other end of the floor, altering shots and causing attempts to go amiss.
