Troop K in Salt Point celebrates 100 years of NYS police
SALT POINT, N.Y. -- The New York State Police continue to celebrate 100 years of service.
To mark the milestone, Troop K in Salt Point held an open house Sunday at its headquarters for members of the public.
The event featured a variety of old and new state police vehicles.
There were also a number of demonstrations held to showcase the services offered by State police.
Troop K representatives say the event is also a way to honor troopers who died in the line of duty.
"It's a time for all of us to recognize that the work we do for the public is often times very dangerous and often times has tragic consequences, but it's work that must be done," said Maj. Robert Gregory, Troop K commander.
State police representatives say 139 New York state police troopers have died in the line of duty since it started, 15 of which were from Troop K.
