CNY festival to offer entertainment, resources to teenagers

NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A group of local teenagers is getting the word out about an upcoming event promoting healthy choices in Central New York.

Teen Fest is a live music event that will take place August 5.

The event is organized by a group known as Contact Community Services and its Teen Talk program.

The group hosts podcasts and live talk sessions on its Facebook page where teens discuss issues such as eating disorders along with drug and alcohol abuse.

"Not a lot of opportunities and programs come along where teens can kind of hear what's going on and know what's going on and kind of learn about the situations the world faces today,” said Jordon Leonard, the Teen Fest co-organizer.

"It's good to know that someone out there knows where you're coming from in life, and I think that's what they do, better than anyone else I've heard in Syracuse, and it's a great program,” said Justin Tanksley, a singer.

The event is geared toward Central New York teens between 13 and 19, but it is open to anyone.

Teen Fest will take place Saturday, August 5 at Henninger High School. The doors will open at 4 p.m. and music will continue through about 9 p.m. The event is free.
