Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Driver Involved in Deadly Hit-and-Run
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office is looking for the driver of a car involved in a fatal hit and run over the weekend. Our Matt Hunter reports from Milton.
MILTON, N.Y. – At around 1:30 Sunday morning, sheriff's deputies responded to Saratoga Avenue in the town of Milton, where a man who had been walking along the road was hit by a car.
"It's short, residential road; there's not a lot of traffic," Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said Monday. “The operator left the scene for some reason, and left that victim on the side of the roadway there."
Identified as Jacob Perring, the victim was taken to Saratoga Hospital where he died soon after. The 32-year-old was homeless at the time of his death.
"An autopsy was conducted [Monday] morning at Albany Medical Center. He died from head trauma and internal injuries,” Zurlo said. “We have him listed as 'homeless,' but he was previously from Saratoga."
By Sunday afternoon, investigators found the vehicle involved parked in a wooded area off Greenfield Avenue.
"It was in an area way off the road and you could say they were trying to conceal it," Zurlo said.
Despite locating the car, no arrests have been made.
"The investigation is still ongoing and we're attempting to identify the operator of that vehicle," Zurlo said.
Declining to provide more specifics on the investigation while deputies search for the driver, Zurlo is hopeful he'll have answers for the victim's family sooner rather than later.
"It's our job to find out what exactly happened, and it’s also for the victim," he said.
