Man Sentenced in Troy for Stabbing Wife in Front of His Children

TROY, N.Y. -- Prosecutors say David Campos admitted to going to his wife's home to kill her, all while his children and neighbors watched in horror.

Now, the family of Denise Gely say they now have some type of closure.

In the video above are images of Gely, who was stabbed to death by her husband of more than 20 years.

"She was a very very strong woman, happy girl, very good mother and wife," Gely's aunt Nelly Figueroa said.

Prosecutors say in November of 2015 her husband, Campos, went to her Troy home and fatally stabbed her multiple times while his children and neighbors watched. He then lead New Jersey State Police on a high speed chase before being apprehended

In June, Campos pleaded guilty to second degree murder, admitting he brought two knives to her home with the intent to kill her. Campos appeared again in court Thursday receiving 20years to life in prison, during his sentencing he said he's sorry.

"I want to apologize to my kids for putting them through this situation and all the families involved including my wife's family," Campos said.

Gely's family, most from Puerto Rico, were emotional in court and spoke after the sentencing saying they'll be at all of his parole hearings to make sure he never gets out.

"We are a very strong family, he didn't have the right to do what he did," Figueroa said.
