Police Officer Involved in Shooting is Cleared
The Rensselaer County District Attorney's office says the Troy officer involved in this past weekend's fatal shooting has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
DA Joel Abelove says Sergeant Randy French and the other officers involved in the incident testified in front of a grand jury Friday, which found that their actions were justified.
French pulled over Edson Thevenin on Sunday morning on suspicion of drunk driving, and Thevenin allegedly drove into French, hitting a barricade. Another officer pulled behind French as he got out of his car, pinning French between Thevenin's car and the patrol car. French then shot and killed Thevenin.
French was hospitalized for his injuries, and has since been released.
