American Red Cross Providing Assistance to 16 After Troy Fire

TROY, N.Y. -- The American Red Cross is providing assistance to 16 people, including several children, after a fire in Troy's Little Italy neighborhood.

Firefighters were called to an apartment building on Fourth and Adams Street around 5 p.m. Sunday night.

Several area fire departments responded, with the fire spreading to a neighboring building. One firefighter was sent to the hospital with heat exhaustion.

"It's a tough fire to fight because of the heat. You know, they've all got scot packs on. A lot of turnout gear on. And, you know, everybody's trying to stay hydrated. We just got a CDTA bus here, to provide them some relief," said Troy Fire Chief Tom Garrett.

No one else was hurt in the fire.
