Opposition to Social Work License Requirement
Health and human services non-profits are upset with social work groups calling for an end to a social worker licensing requirement. We spoke to the National Association of Social Workers about the issue last week. They say the exemption has meant that some of the neediest New Yorkers do not have access to fully-qualified professionals, and, 19 years after the law was passed agencies should be ready to make the switch. Tonight's guests disagree. John Coppola is from the New York Association of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and Andrea Smyth is from the New York State Coalition for Children's Behavioral Health.
