Switching to Value-Oriented Healthcare

New York is beginning to change the way healthcare is delivered and paid for through a pair of programs, the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment program and the State Health Innovation Plan. Together, they aim to move away the traditional fee-for-service model and into what's known as a "value oriented" system. According to the New York State Health Foundation, value-oriented models focus more on outcomes and helping the patient get better. The foundation released two scorecards last week examining the changes in the state. Foundation vice president David Sandman joined us to talk more about this.
