Opening Day for Miracle League
GRAND ISLAND N.Y. — Sunday was opening day for Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York. The league allows children with disabilities to enjoy America's Pastime.
Miracle League serves over 200,000 children across the world including players on 6 local teams. Children compete on wheelchair accessible diamonds and play with special rules.
Parents say seeing their children have the chance to play baseball is a thrill.
"This is something we never thought she'd be able to do," said Miracle League parent Sarah Gruszka. "We were told that she'd be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life, so there went playing in Little League, and playing soccer and ice skating and doing dances and now she's playing baseball and she does other things too, so it's amazing."
Miracle league holds games two times a week and runs through August.
