  • Six weeks away from the popular Taste of Buffalo, here's the 61 restaurants/food trucks/eateries and six New York state wineries set to serve up food and drink downtown.
  • The fifth annual Buffalovefest hits the Buffalo Zoo this evening. Beer, wine, food trucks, artisans and live music are all part of the event. Tickets are $25 dollars in advance and $35 at the door and include two drink tickets. Buffalovefest goes from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • A public meeting will be held in Bowmansville tonight to discuss long-term flooding issues along Ellicott Creek in Lancaster. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowmansville Fire Department.

  • Relay for Life season kicks off in Buffalo tonight. Cancer survivors, their supporters, caregivers and families will gather to walk at Canalside from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event helps remember loved ones lost, honors survivors, and raises money for the American Cancer Society.
  • Nickel City Con returns to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center this weekend. The comic convention goes today through Sunday complete with panels, video game tournaments, costume contents and features stars like William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek and Billy Dee Williams of Star Wars.  Tickets are $15 per day, but kids ten and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Events kick off this afternoon at 3 p.m.

  • Today's the day Canalside is announcing its summer concert lineup - the immensely popular series draws thousands to the waterfront each Thursday night from June 15 to Aug. 17.
  • Homeowners near Tonawanda Coke who are interested in getting their soil tested can head to a public meeting to learn more about the process today. It's being hosted by Citizen Science Community Resources and takes place at the River Road Fire Hall on Kaufman Avenue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • An open house style meeting will be held in Hamburg tonight to look at plans for a proposed multi-purpose sports facility. Meeting goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hamburg Senior Community Center on Southwestern Boulevard.

  • More than a dozen companies will be on hand for a career fair in Buffalo today. It goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Career Collegiate Institute on Saint Lawrence Avenue. The career fair is being hosted by the Buffalo Public Schools Adult Education initiative, but the event is open to the public.

  • Homeowners along Lake Ontario who need to make insurance claims for flood damage can get help from the state today. The state Department of Financial Services is setting up Mobile Command Centers at the Olcott Fire Company in Newfane. Reps can help with insurance claims and requests for help from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is also a flood assistance hotline with more information -- 866-244-3839.
  • More than 300 vendors will be at the 18th annual World's Largest Yard sale taking place today and tomorrow at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. Admission is $3, but kids 12 and under are free with a paid adult. Goes from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • A career fest with reps from 20 companies will be held today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Millenium Airport Hotel on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga. Those planning to attend are asked to dress professionally and bring several copies of your resume.

  • Access to two parks in Niagara County have been restricted as water levels along Lake Ontario continue to rise.  Officials say a stairway on a trail at Royalton Ravine failed because of soil erosion and part of the bank at Krull Park slid into the water. The Parks department have used snow-fence barriers to seal off access to the stretch of lakeside at Krull Park. It's not clear yet when those areas will reopen.
  • Deep South Taco will close Ellicott Street from Broadway to Mohawk for its second annual Cinco de Mayo celebration. The event will again include bands, DJs, face paintin, and food and drinks from the restaurant. It goes from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door and you have to be at least 21 years old.

  • A rally is planned in Lackawanna this morning to draw attention to a so-called zombie property City officials hope the rally at 149 Kirby Avenue will spur action against the owner. The rally starts at 10:30 a.m.

  • A roundtable discussion will be held on Grand Island tonight  to discuss a proposed federal law that would let people carry a concealed pistol across state lines. The meeting goes from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Defensor Inc. firearms training facility on Lang Boulevard. Admission is $15.
  • New jobs up for grabs. Reps from several companies in the area will meet with people at the Buffalo Employment and Training Center on Goodell Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also this evening, reps from Child and Adolescent Treatment Services and Lake Shore Behavioral Health will hold open interviews for more then 50 open positions from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 301 Cayuga Road in Cheektowaga. Openings include nurses, social workers, counselors, case managers and rehab specialists.
