'Buffalo Connect' Free Public WiFi Launches on Main Street
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Mayor Byron Brown joined with M&T Bank and The University at Buffalo on Tuesday to offically launch free public WiFi along Main Street in downtown Buffalo.
"Buffalo Connect" will give people access to the internet on Main Street between Canalside and North Street. Working with the NFTA, the city was able to utilize existing rail power stations to house the WiFi equipment.
Brown said this is just the beginning for public internet, and pending the success of the Main Street installation, more free WiFi could be coming to the city.
"It will help Buffalo to continue to attract tech-savvy young professionals to our city," said Brown, D-Buffalo.
After the announcement, Brown sent out the first official tweet on the public wifi, thanking M&T and UBuffalo for support.
