Relief: Not as hot Sunday

Sunday's heat will not be as extreme as in the previous couple days.

While the afternoon will still feel very much like summer, Sunday's highs should be closer to average for this time of year.

For the middle of July, we can expect temperatures as hot as 90. Saturday, temperatures climbed into the mid and upper 90s.  The humid air in place created heat index values, or feels-like temperatures, in the triple digits for many Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a front that will settle over central and eastern parts of the state Sunday afternoon, temperatures will not be quite as hot.

Behind the front, western parts of the state will enjoy slightly cooler and less humid conditions.

Central and eastern North Carolina will have somewhat "cooler" temperatures.  However, it will be a result of more cloud cover and a chance for afternoon showers and storms.
