A Senate judiciary committee scheduled a hearing late Wednesday on legislation that's already passed the House that would extend the waiting period to undergo the procedure from 24 hours to 72 hours.
This was one of the first proposals to be introduced and voted on the state Senate this year. The legislation that states magistrates can opt out of performing all marriages if they have a religious objection to it.
