Middle School Student Interviews Former President Jimmy Carter for Documentary

MOORESVILLE- A North Carolina middle school student went above and beyond for a class project.

Joey Carol, an 8th grader at Woodlawn School in Mooresville, produced a documentary for National History Day; the theme was 'taking a stand.'

He interviewed former President Jimmy Carter and the former Merck C.E.O. Roy Vagelos.

"Meeting with both of them was beneficial to my documentary, that's for sure. There's no question about it. But, also, meeting with both of them it really expanded my view on the world and how others view the world," said Carol.

"The purpose of the project is to help students develop research skills; looking at primary sources, secondary resources and putting it all together, and creating an annotative bibliography," said Carol's Social Studies teacher Beth Robinson.

Carol will now compete at the statewide competition at the North Carolina History Museum.

It's scheduled for April 29.
