Charlotte apartment fire displaces 100+ residents
CHARLOTTE -- The Red Cross is working to help 130 people who were forced from their homes by an apartment fire in east Charlotte early Monday.
The three-alarm fire at an apartment complex on Farm Pond Lane sent seven people to the hospital for minor injuries.
The fire began around 1 a.m. and destroyed 40 units.
Some residents said no fire alarms or sprinklers went off during the blaze, which is believed to have started on the third floor. Some people jumped out of their windows to escape.
Buses took displaced residents to Albemarle Middle School where they met with case workers who helped them with temporary housing and immediate needs.
Officials say that the fire was intentionally set.
