LANCASTER, Calif. — Watch out for change bandits coming to town next week — They're part of a joint fundraiser between two local nonprofits banking on the idea that everyone has a little extra to spare.

"So this is your fun bank bag, we'll use to rob all your friends and family of loose change," said Nicole Gerstein, director of the Antelope Valley Community Clinic.

The AV Community Clinic is urging locals to sign up, pick up a disguise and start collecting money for the clinic and Grace Resources.

"The idea is that people will get into character, have a lot of fun with this and rob their family friends and co-workers of all their loose change,” said Gerstein.

The inspiration came from a hospital on the East Coast that did something similar and was wildly successful according to Gerstein. They're hoping to raise at least $30,000 next week.

"On Saturday the 27th, we invite all of our bandits to join us at the old Western Hotel on Lancaster Blvd. to drop off their change,” she said.

All the money raised will go towards health and wellness services for low-income families plus food, clothing and shelter for the homeless.
